The Penumbra Scent Collection

Penumbra is the dark side of the moon, where the sun never hits.

This collection is comprised of our own blend of dark, mysterious, and passionate scents, complex and captivating. Here you'll find exotic incense, aromatic woods, deep ambers, rare sandalwoods, hypnotic patchoulis and rich spices.  The character of each scent is intensified with carefully selected florals, fruits, wines and herbs. 

We've named our blends after the people, images and places that stir our soul and take us to the precipice before the abyss. Some are brooding, dark and mournful, others are passionate, complicated and beautiful, all are the essence of life, all are provocative.

Lapis Mist
The deepest, darkest sea splashing against the rocks under the whisper glow of a waning moon creates a lapis mist.  At the top of the rocks is a forest filling the air note of wood moistening with lapis mist. This scent is created with teakwood, amber, new leather and a breath of sweetness from tobacco.

Moonflower
A flash of light in the garden as midnight approaches. The air is heavy with darkness and the earth of the garden can finally rest. The moon illuminates the petals of weeping flowers destined never to see the sun. Deep and intoxicating, filled with the passion of patchouli resonates in this scent while and gentle violet creates contrast to the passion.  Sandalwood and Amber add romance!

Midnight Kiss
A forbidden kiss at midnight remembered in the light of morning brings guilt and pleasure to a young maiden's mind. Fresh woods add tingle to the memory, amber adds romance and musk perfectly unites this delicious memory.

Whispers in the Dark
Can you hear that? Is it real? This scent is a complex fragrance that brings the forest, earth, sky and sea together. This could be a hot Southern summer night or a cold Norther winter day. Sandalwood, pinion pine, fresh greens and earthy herbs blended to one of the most beautiful scents we've ever created.

Black Moon Veil
Swirls of lavender are lost in a medley of patchouli and greens.  A veil of fresh air appears and then is gone. Is there such a thing as a Black Moon? Impossible to know if you can't see it but you can feel it at the heart of this fragrance.

Nevermore
The perfect name for a fragrance that was almost never. Bushes of wild berries, impossible to find in the forest, are brought home.  The scent of herbs drying on the window sill greet you as you enter the cottage with your basket of berries while the forest air flutters the curtains.

Chamber Door
Fire torch in hand, the chamber door is opened. Dusk is soon approaching and darkness will soon envelope the sand castle in the desert. Enter the world of myrrh cleansed with clove. A very complex scent, blended with herbs and musk, takes the sharpness of myrrh's resins notes and put them to rest.

La Lune
The moon is beautiful, white and glowing on one side, dark and cold on the other.  This fresh, uplifting fragrance has ocean and green leafy notes, with traces of citrus and herbs.  Fresh, cleansing and deeper than most spa scents.

Lady Macbeth's Legacy
No guilt as Lady Macbeth plots the murder of Duncan! She sits at the window, indulging herself in the finest of sweets. Royal treats heavy with spices, sweetened with brown sugar, vanilla and fruits. We've rested Lady Macbeth's sweet temptation on a bed of amber.

Cauldron Dregs
The witches were here. I see their cauldron, the embers still glowing. What potion did they create? I can smell the remnants of the cauldron, warm and inviting. It is hard to resist the magic of the herbs and spices, soothing vanilla and musk. Would it be as sweet as I imagine, healing all worries?

Shadows of Solstice
Whimsical and bright, just as shadows play and jump before the solstice.  Mandarin plays well with the exotic woods, while sandalwood adds beauty. A truly hypnotic and beautiful scent.

Cleopatra's Demise
Highly exotic scent equal to the exotic suicide of Cleopatra. Who but Cleopatra could plan such a stunning end to life? Rose is blended with patchouli and laced with fruit in this very edgy scent.

Velvet Glove
Soft and sultry, wrapping around you with notes of spices and southern pecans.  This is a very warm, velvety scent with myrrh and amber adding to this smooth and intoxicating fragrance.

Brooding Soul
What is in the heart of a man tortured by betrayal?  This fragrance captures the bright side of patchouli from blending with citrus and resinous, sharp woody notes.

Ambered Lady
The moon is shadowed by clouds, the night is dark, the air is heavy as she hides against the stone wall waiting for him.  He finds her by her scent, amber, as it is etched in his heart forever.

Cold Moon
You can hear the snow crackling under the horse's hooves as they race toward the castle. It was a hard climb in the mountains but the horses delivered their passenger.  He stops and takes in the castle, the air crisp and clean, almost paining his lungs to breathe this high in the mountains.  Very energizing and minty scent of spearmint, lemon, and vanilla to soften the menthol notes.

Annabelle Lee
The consuming love of Edgar Allen Poe for his Annabelle Lee, can be felt by every reader of this tragic poem, with it mournful rhythm. It was many and many a year ago, in this kingdom by the sea, that a maiden there lived whom you may know by the name of Annabelle Lee.  This fragrance is brings the kingdom by the sea to life with ocean notes created by fresh juniper, warm jasmine, bleached woods, and leather.

Denali Coven
Vampires capable of love, the Denali Coven is only one of two coven who feel as humans feel.  Cardamom, native to India, is a distinctly unique spice, related to the ginger family but cardamom is warmer. Blended with clove for more warmth, barely a pinch of cinnnamon, a drop of anise and then surrounded with rich woods creates the perfect love scent for the Denali Coven.
